it’s time to kick some abs

I did a post last week talking about my mommy tummy.  I’m proud of being a mommy but I don’t think I need any more of a constant reminder than my lovely kiddos.  Thus, my resolve to crunch these abs back into pre baby state.

Here is my before:  (WARNING, you see some skin!… and it might make you sick)

I know it’s not “that” bad but it’s not “good” either.  So Sunday shortly after these pictures were taken, I started on my newly created ab routine that I created completely on the fly.  I’m so organized like that.

What I’m doing:

P90X Ab Ripper X – if you are unfamiliar with this program, let me know and I’ll post the details.  Most people I’ve talked to have seen this program and are familiar with the pfiffer scissors and froggies and such.

Planks – right now I’m doing one traditional plank for one minute and one side plank for one minute (one on each side).  I was able to handle the traditional plank just fine for the full minute but the side planks kicked my abs.  I fell down after 20 seconds.  I just picked myself up and kept going.  I might have been writhing around in pain afterwards. 

Captain’s Chair leg raises – I had to google to figure out what this equipment was called… it was originally purchased when I was into P90X in order to do pull ups.  Now it hangs out in the exercise room and typically has a soccer net hung up on it.

So basically I dangled on this thing and then pulled my legs up while my knees were bent.  Holy smoley muscles that I didn’t know I had..  I did 20 of these.  You can also do an exercise where you pull your legs up while they remain straight but by the time I was done with the bent knee ones I was spent.

My plan is to do this 3/4 times a week.  The whole thing only took about 25 minutes.

Immediately after the workout I felt great and I thought… woot, I showed those muscles.  They don’t even hurt that bad.

I did complete my 13 mile run this weekend.  I actually stretched it out to a 13.1 so I could say I ran a half.  Results forthcoming.

Anyone else have an exercise room in their house?  Can anyone guess my favorite color yet??

  4. Kudos to you for doing so much work on your abs. I tend to avoid them because the hurt from a good workout is a lot more intollerable for me than working legs and upper body. I do have a workout room in my house, but it’s also where I get dressed in the mornings, and do my hair. Multi-tasking.

  6. Umm being a mom does NOT sound easy – but awesome for you working towards some killer abs while juggling children all day!

    The P90X Ab Ripper is killer… I also love the Jillian Michaels DVDs Ripped in 30 AND the Tone It Up girls have awesome online workouts on their website you should check out if you get bored or just wanna mix it up one day :)

    If there was an arrow pointing towards my middle it would say ‘wine’. Wine is my weakness haha

  8. Thanks for posting this! I think I commented before that I too have the mommy abs. Um, however, your mommy abs look like a 6 pack compared to mine. Seriously…I’ve got a whole muffin hanging out. My hubby helped me with some ab stuff, but yours seems more killer. I think I need to fit this into my routine.
